KUCHING: As many as 210,600 Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines have arrived in the city and will be used as booster doses in Sarawak.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the vaccines for booster shots arrived at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Sunday (Oct 10) evening.
“Last Friday, the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) approved only Pfizer for booster doses. It will be used on those who have received the second dose at least after six months.”
In a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 11), Dr Sim said that the Sarawak Covid-19 Vaccine Advisory Group (Scovag) had recommended as the priority groups for the booster dose in Oct and Nov 340,000 people who were over 60 years old and the medical frontliners.
This is irrespective of the vaccines they had taken more than three months ago — Pfizer or Sinovac or AstraZeneca.
“Scovag will work closely with the NPRA on the booster for these first priority groups comprising frontliners and the elderly, followed by those with comorbidities and then the rest of adults aged 18 and above,” he said.
Meanwhile, in another post, Dr Sim conveyed his appreciation to Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus for donating its personal computers to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“Thank you very much to Swinburne Sarawak for donating 60 university personal computers to the SGH.
“This is an exemplary leadership in corporate social responsibility,” he said, adding that the university was doing technology refreshes.
The Local Government and Housing Minister said that the donation of the computers was timely for the SGH in view of the increased activities at the Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC), Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) as well as the vaccination programme for the administration of booster shots this week.
