MUKAH: Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Ek Hua in Penakub here will soon have a new building.
The existing double-storey wooden building, which is located at the bank of Batang Mukah, will be replaced by a double-storey concrete structure.
The proposed new building, which costs RM2 million, would be built on stilts and located nearby the old school.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said he would discuss with the Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who looks after Chinese schools in Sarawak, on how they could source for funds for the project.
“I will try to highlight this project to Dr Sim, and hopefully the minister could help the school obtain the necessary funds,” he said when officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony of SJKC Ek Hua new building project in Penakub here on Saturday (Oct 16).
Abdul Yakub hoped that Dr Sim would be kind enough to help obtain the funds for the school, in the region of between RM1.5 to RM1.6 million.
According to him, the Sarawak government under the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem had given a RM200,000 grant to the school.
He thanked donors (individuals and organisations) who had previously contributed cash or other forms of donation to the school to help realise the project.
He hoped that more donors would come forward to help the school so that the project could be completed soon.
