KUCHING: The Borneo Cultures Museum is expected to open its doors to the public by the first quarter of next year.
Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the museum’s grand opening was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has unfortunately hindered the arrangement of the exhibition in the museum. This is because the contractors involved are not only from Sarawak, but also from Singapore.
“We want to include interactive features like lighting and sounds so that it is different from the old museum,” he said during a press conference after the Fireside Chat and Closing of Tenun Fashion Week 2021 at South Wing of Old Courthouse on Sunday.
Abdul Karim pointed out that the iconic museum deserves to be flooded by large crowds upon its grand opening.
“I would love to see many people going to the new museum. It was supposed to be officiated at the end of last year, but Covid-19 delayed it and I do not think it will be done by the end of this year either.
“Things are currently in the final stage of preparation and they are waiting for a new date from authorities. I do hope it can be opened in the first quarter of next year,” he added.
