KUCHING: From the whole of last year (2017) until now, nine criminal gangs have been successfully smashed, outgoing Kuching District Police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said yesterday.
These nine gangs are the Geng A’A, Geng Huat, Geng Curi Kabel, Geng Bachok, Geng Azila , Geng Idris, Geng Harry, Geng Lan 2018 and Geng Wan, he said.
“From the achievement, a total of 45 cases were successfully solved,” SAC Abang Ahmad said at the handing over of duty from him to new Kuching District Police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek at Kuching District Police Headquarters at Simpang Tiga here yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by Head of Sarawak Police Management Department SAC Dato Zamani Tan Sri Hamdan.
As for Crime Prevention Act (POCA), Abang Ahmad said, Kuching District had surpassed the target by successfully gaining the first ranking in the Sarawak Contingent, where a total of 29 individuals had been charged under POCA and resulting in 21 criminal cases solved.
He said, among the gangs that were successfully annihilated were those active in thefts motorcycles, vehicles and house-breaking.
Abang Ahmad said, as the result of these groups being smashed and the individuals charged under POCA as well as gambling raids that were carried out, the crime index in Kuching District showed drop of cases totalling 62 cases (16.06 per cent) compared with the same period in 2017.
For montly rate of charges, the Crime Investigation Department successfully managed to achieve the target set, namely 35 per cent monthly.
