Youth gets 2 years’ jail for violating restriction order

SIBU: A Magistrates’ Court today sentenced a youth to two years’ jail for violating the Prevention of Crime Act 1959.

Ronialdo Jamberi, 23, of Jalan Tiong Hua pleaded guilty through an interpreter to a charge of leaving his house without written permission while under a restriction order. 

The charge against him stated that he, being a registered person placed under police supervision under section 15(1) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, had contravened paragraph (d) of the said order by leaving his dwelling home from 7pm to 6am without the authority of the officer in charge of the Sibu Police District.

He committed the offence at about 5.30am on Oct 17.

The offence, punishable under section 15(4) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, provides for an imprisonment term of between two and 10 years upong conviction.

The court was told that at about 5.30am on Oct 17 a police team who went to Ronialdo’s dwelling house found him missing.

Later at about 11pm on the same day, a team of police led by ASP Taruna Madian arrested the accused at his house and brought him to the Central Police Station for further investigation.

Investigation revealed that the accused is a registered person under section 15(1) of the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 since May 7 until May 6, 2023.

Under the board order, the accused is ordered to reside in Sibu District and is not allowed to leave the district without police permission.

The accused should stay at home from 7pm to 6am and only allowed to leave his house after obtaining written permission from the officer in charge of the Police District.

On Oct 17 at about 5.30am when the police searched his house, he was not around and did not provide any written permission, thereby failing to comply with the restriction order.
