KUCHING: The Buy Malaysia Campaign (BMC) relaunch will help stimulate domestic economy, says Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad.

“This is in line with the aim to encourage consumers to buy local products as well as help entrepreneurs,” he added at the launch of Mydin hypermarket’s OHMYDIN! Huru Hara Pasaraya campaign here on Tuesday (Oct 26).

“The BMC will assist local entrepreneurs, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), market their products and services as the SME sector plays an important role in the national economy and is expected to contribute to the increase in Malaysia’s GDP.

“In 2019, the BMC recorded sales worth RM2.87 bln involving a total of 279,000 stock keeping units (SKU) for the retail sector, and RM6.84 mln in sales from the online marketplace.

“In 2020, it saw an increase of RM3.3 bln (SKUs exceeding 326,000) and the online marketplace reported a huge increase, with sales exceeding RM145 mln.”
