KOTA SAMARAHAN: Residents in Kota Samarahan welcome the proposal by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to build the Light Rail Transit System (LRT) from Kampung Rembus, here to Damai.

According to Paolo Senin who is a resident of Kampung Rembus, the construction of LRT in the next six years is like  a ‘magic trick’ to solve the problem of traffic congestion.

“The problem of road congestion in Kota Samarahan is at  its worst at peak times especially this area which is the second alternative to Serian.

“Hence, the construction of LRT will ultimately solve this problem,” he said when met by reporters here yesterday.

He said the construction of the LRT which will start from his hometown is a good news because it would be easier for the surrounding villagers to travel to the city.

Meanwhile, for Perojin Ringo, the construction of LRT from Serian to Muara Tebas will make it easier for her to work.

“I work at the Land and Survey Department in Serian but for the time being, i am stationed in Kota Samarahan office.

“After the Land and Survey Department offices in Serian are ready, then i will be transferred there,” she explained.

Thus, she said, the existence of LRT would facilitate her trip  to work in Serian  because then  she doesnt have to drive long distance through traffic congestion.

Perojin, who lives in Kota Samarahan expressed her joy about the State Government’s plan to build the LRT.

A private worker, John Wong, hopes that the government will provide adequate parking space at each LRT station.

“Yes, I welcome the first LRT construction in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division because it will save travel time.

“Therefore, the parking space at each LRT station should be sufficient to accommodate the needs at the time,” he said.

Recently the Chief Minister announced plans to build three LRT routes, namely Samarahan City to Damai, Serian to Muara Tebas and Kuching City circle.
