KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call by a delegation from Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) at Astana Negeri here, yesterday.
The courtesy call led by MIS president, Datu Misnu Taha was meant to inform and seek advise from Tun Taib regarding the development and construction of the Masjid India which is also known as Masjid Terapung (Floating Mosque).
The new mosque which is built to replace Masjid India at Jalan Gambier here is the first ‘floating mosque’ to be built in the state.
Misnu who was met later said the new mosque which was built since 2016 is expected to be reay by the end of this year.
“The new mosque is equipped with various faciltiies including air conditioners. It is also able to accomodate 1,600 worshippers at any one time,” he said.
Misnu added that the new mosque is expected to become a new landmark for Kuching city and he hoped that it is able to attract more tourists.
Earlier, Tun Pehin Sri Taib received a courtesy call by HIKMAH President, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Dato Husain which was meant to invite Tun Taib to officiate at the 19th HIKMAH Delegate Assembly to be held at Dewan HIKMAH here this Friday.
Also present were HIKMAH Deputy President, Datu Misnu Taha, HIKMAH Secretary General (Honorary), Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie and
HIKMAH Chief Executive Officer, Alwi Mashidi.
