SIMANGGANG: The choice of forming a stable government is in the hands of the people but they need to be wise in making the right choice, said Simanggang incumbent assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

Harden giving his speech at the gotong-royong programme.

He made this remark during a gotong-royong programme at Taman Landin, Kampung Cina Pasir Panas together with Sri Aman District Council (MDSA) on Sunday (Nov 21).

At present, he explained the choice to form a stable state government lies with the people, yet the people should wisely evaluate the options.

“People should be wise to make the right choices, set aside emotions and think deeply in determining the elected representatives who can bring development in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

“At present, only GPS has channelled a lot of allocations while the opposition parties are only good at talking and making promises,” he said during his speech at the programme.

Furthermore, he said if the area is governed by opposition representatives, many shortcomings will occur, especially in terms of the distribution of allocations such as RM5 million per year for the Rural Transformation Project and RM2 million per year for the Minor Rural Project.

He added that all these would be lost if the opposition takes over and the people will not get any benefits from them in time to come.

At the programme, Harden also noted the unsuitable soil ditches that often caused flash floods being voiced out by the village committee.

He assured that the plan to solve the issue has been submitted and the Drainage and Irrigation Department is in the process of preparing the specifications and scope of work including costs.

“As for the problem of clean water pipelines, I have submitted a proposal to the Rural Water Supply Department to look at all the pipes that are 30 years old in Simanggang area to replace the pipes in order to better supply water to consumers,” said Harden.

Also present at function were MDSA chairman Anthony Abell Chendan, MDSA secretary Tay Guan Huat, Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng, Pemanca Lee Siang Hua and community leader Tiong Chong Onn.
