KUCHING: Cracks have appeared in the opposition DAP’s armour, leading many to ask if this will translate to good news for SUPP in the upcoming state election.
SUPP’s Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap is inclined to think the party will have a better outing in this polls.
He said it was simply a question of how many seats SUPP would win in the Sarawak election after the big win by Barisan Nasional in Malacca over the weekend.
“As you are aware, SUPP is a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the others being PBB, PRS and PDP,” said the Kota Sentosa branch chairman.
“During the last election, DAP won all the seats it contested, whereas this time round, it only managed to win four out of the eight seats it contested in Malacca.
“Most of the seats that DAP contested in are Chinese majority seats and the conclusion that can be drawn from the results in the Malacca election is that DAP has lost substantial support from its traditional vote base of Chinese voters.” said Yap.
“MCA managed to win two seats. SUPP is quite similar to MCA in that the bulk of the seats that SUPP contests in are Chinese majority seats.
“What we can postulate from the Malacca election is that SUPP should do better in this coming Sarawak election and win more seats compared to the 11th Sarawak election as DAP appears to have lost support from among the Chinese voters,” he added.
Meanwhile SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew put on record that the party had always stood by the people.
“SUPP has always been there for the people all these years.
“SUPP has always been on the ground to serve the people,” he added.
In a related development Yap said due to the stringent SOPs that the Election Commission had imposed in the Malacca election, it was inevitable that the usage of online media platform would be vital in getting the message through to the voters.
“However, the traditional usage of billboards, banners and pamphlets to get the message across will not be neglected,” he said.
