KUCHING: Don’t take for granted the assistance provided by the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) to improve and develop houses of worship.
Batu Kitang incumbent assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang who made the call said Unifor had done a lot to help those who profess other religions in the state, thus proving the state government cared for its people.
“Unifor exists because our leadership under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg cares for Sarawakians, regardless of race or religion.
“It is safe for me to say that Sarawak is the only entity in Malaysia that cares for communities of other religions including about their houses of worship,” added Lo.
He said this at the Tai Pak Kung Temple at Lorong 3, Jalan Semeba, during the handing over of the project to the temple’s management following its completion on Thursday (Nov 25).
“Today, the key has been handed by the contractor to the management. The exterior of the stage and office are completed but there is still a lot to be done like getting air conditioners, tables and chairs and others.
“Unifor provided RM100,000 for this project but the cost was about RM400,000. Thanks to donations from the people it reached that amount,” he said.
He commended the surrounding community for coming together, adding that this shows that there is a sense of belonging among them.
Accompanying Lo to the temple was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief and SUPP Kota Sentosa chairman Wilfred Yap.
