KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) is doing its utmost to revitalise the tourism sector in the country.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said they have provided assistance such as giving discount vouchers for domestic flights in order to encourage the people to go on holidays and boost domestic tourism.

“We have vouchers for plane tickets, namely Malaysia Airlines (MAS) of RM100 while Malindo Air and Firefly Airlines Malaysia RM50.

“These discount vouchers can be obtained directly from agents because they are people who work with airlines,” she said, noting that the initiative is implemented so that the people will spend their money within the country.

She said this during a press conference after the official launch of Malaysia Homestay Experience Guideline at Pullman Hotel Kuching on Saturday (Nov 27).

Commenting on assistance for land transport in Sarawak, she said thus far, there are no discount packages in the state.

“However, in West Malaysia, we do offer a discount price of RM1 from one destination to another for the trains.

“Nonetheless, we will try to look into the initiatives for land transport in Sarawak,” she added.
