KUCHING: PAS which has never won a seat in the state legislative assembly is out to try its luck again.
It has already identified its candidates and the seats it will contest, according to its Sarawak commissioner Jofri Jaraiee.
He said the candidates’ list and seats have been submitted to the central leadership and would be announced at the appropriate time.
“Yes, we had a meeting with central leadership and we have been informed that all final decisions will be submitted to the Pas Syura Ulama Council for confirmation of candidates and where PAS will contest in Sarawak.
“That’s all the information we can provide so far as we are also waiting for the final decision,” he told a national tabloid the New Straits Times.
Meanwhile, the party deputy president, who is also Environment and Water Minister, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that PAS would contest in the state election.
Speaking to reporters in Bangi, Kuala Lumpur, he said the decision was to gauge the party machinery’s preparations to face the 15th general election (GE15).
In the 2016 state election, PAS contested in 11 seats — Samariang, Pantai Damai, Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Beting Maro, Kakus, Jepak, Samalaju, Lambir and Pujut.
The party spread its wings to Sarawak in 1996 and had stood in state elections since 2001. Thus far, however, it has yet to win any seat.
