KUCHING: Skuad Prihatin Pantai Damai or Pantai Damai Care Squad was set up here on Wednesday (Jan 12) as part of preparations to face flooding incidents due to the current bad weather.
Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the squad comprised Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Pantai Damai branch leaders and volunteers.
“They will provide assistance should any flooding occurs, especially in Pantai Damai areas, which is usually flooded if there is a downpour and high tide,” added the Sarawak Assistant Utilities and Telecommunications Minister.
He spoke to the media after the launch – so far, there are 60 members covering three zones: Seberang Hilir, Santubong and Telaga Air.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman said his ministry was currently in a follow-up discussion with the the director of Land and Survey Department, Abdullah Julaihi, on the reopening of Trombol Beach in Telaga Air near here.
He said Trombol Beach had many places of interest and hoped the department would reopen the beach.
