KUCHING: Several state leaders have dismissed as silly and inappropriate, a suggestion that the state government re-gazette the designation of the Sarawak Chief Minister to Prime Minister of Sarawak.
The state leaders, who wished not to be named, were commenting on the proposal by Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (ASPIRASI) president Lina Soo that the designation of the “CM of Sarawak” be re-gazetted as the “PM of Sarawak.”
Soo had said that the proposal was consistent with the call for “equal partner” status in the Federation of Malaysia.
“Readdressing our CM as the PM of Sarawak is proper and legitimate if we are consistent with our call for equal power,” Soo opined.
Meanwhile, a senior journalist quipped that a “rose called by any other name is still a rose” and that the designation of the chief minister should not be turned into a political rhetoric.
