KUCHING: A total of 100 people received food assistance comprising basic necessities during an integrated welfare programme from Tiong Hock Kong Temple management, Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching Branch, and Viva Future Sdn Bhd.
The recipients were from three centres, namely Community Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK), Sarawak Society for the Deaf, and Association of Confucius Teachings Chung Li Kuching.
The donations were handed over by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang branch chairman Sih Hua Tong to the recipients at Tiong Hock Kong Temple here on Saturday (Jan 15).
He said the community programme proved that the cooperation from various organisations in welfare activities such as this had a positive impact on many parties, especially the needy.
He added that this programme also showed a good example to the younger generation in that the community in Sarawak upheld the value of caring for one another.
“This programme is very meaningful; it shows that our community has the spirit of caring for each other. It also helps to ease the burden of those in need especially during the New Year and upcoming Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.
He also hoped that more organisations would come forward to provide such charitable support to help the needy.
Sih said these activities needed to be promoted more to be shown as an example for the younger generation.
“These values are good to be cultivated among the younger generation – helping others whether it is a festive time or not as well as helping those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He also said the programme was expected to be implemented continuously, whereby this session was the first one for this year.
