KUCHING: Most Malaysians wish former Malaysian premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad well and hope that he will have a speedy recovery following his heart treatment at the Kuala Lumpur National Heart Institute (IJN).
“He is one of Malaysia’s far sighted leaders and Keluarga Malaysia respect him for his vision during his tenure as Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“We all pray for his health and May Allah protect him,” said Syeliza Basri, press secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture here on Sunday (Jan 23).
Dr Mahathir is currently in stable condition after receiving treatment at the IJN on Jan 8, according to his daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir.
Marina said in a press statement on Saturday (Jan 22) in Kuala Lumpur that Dr Mahathir has been treated at the IJN over the past two days.
“He is being treated following a successful elective medical procedure on Jan 8,” she said.
Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN on Jan 7 and was discharged on Jan 13 after undergoing the elective medical procedure.
Meanwhile, political analyst Professor James Chin of the University of Tasmania said: “I think we all know anything can happen to a person of his age but, of course, we pray for his fast recovery.
“At present, it is clear Pejuang (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air) cannot survive without him as their leader.”
