BINTULU: An Indonesian man in his 40s was injured after falling into a ditch behind Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Jepak, here on Thursday (Jan 27).

According to early reports from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, the victim had spent an extended period of time in the ditch after suffering injuries to his waist and numbness in his right leg and right hand from the fall.

It is understood that the injuries had maimed the victim which rendered him unable to stand or walk to safety.

“A report on the incident was received at 4pm. When rescuers arrived at the location, they found the victim still lying in the three-foot deep ditch.

“The victim complained that he had been lying down for a long time and was aware that he had injuries to his waist and numbness in his right leg and right hand, making him unable to climb out,” it said in a statement.

The rescue operation was carried out using special equipment and the victim was strapped onto a stretcher and lifted out of the ditch.

“The rescue operation and extrication of the victim by rescuers was also assisted by paramedics at the scene.

“The victim was then handed over to a medical officer for further action,” it explained.
