KUCHING: Former Head of State Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng has passed away. He was 100.
His demise was confirmed by a close family member. The late statesman turned 100 on August 27 last year.
He served as the third and sixth Head of State from 1977 to 1981, and from 2001 to 2014 being the first person to hold the post twice.
Earlier last year, he lost his wife, Toh Puan Norkiah who passed away at the age of 72.
In an interview with New Sarawak Tribune on the eve of his birthday, Salahuddin wished Sarawak continued prosperity and unity.
He reminded Sarawakians not to take for granted the peace and harmony they had and to always be kind to one another irrespective of their gender and racial background.
