KUCHING: Chinese New Year will be merrier as people are now free to travel back to their hometowns without any restriction.
“More people are now able to make their way home this year to celebrate the auspicious occasion with their parents and families here after two years of separation due to the pandemic, especially those working in the peninsula,” social activist Voon Shiak Ni.
“Nonetheless, I would like to advise everyone to stay cautious as the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing.
“It will be good to strictly observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 30).
Voon stated that Malaysia was seeing an uptrend in daily Covid-19 infection the past few weeks with over 5,000 new infections over the weekend.
“On the brighter side for Sarawakians, most of us have taken our booster dose but the public need to remember that the vaccine doses do not prevent you from getting infected.
“Hence, it is still crucial that all of us do the Covid-19 self test before visiting or gathering to protect our family and relatives, especially our elderly at home,” he stressed.
