KUCHING: World Cancer Day 2022 will be officiated by State Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah on Friday (Feb 4).
Sharing her views on her hopes and wishes for the event, she said there are a few issues which still caused great concern in Sarawak regarding the cancer disease.
“In Sarawak, we are still concern with awareness issue, late presentation, costs such as travel and accommodation and some of the treatment cost that has to be borne by the patients or their caregiver,” Fatimah told the New Sarawak Tribune on Thursday.
On World Cancer Day this year, she said the event was observed on Feb 4 to make people aware of cancer and the prejudices associated with the condition.
It was founded on Feb 4 in 2000 during the World Cancer Conference for the New Millennium in Paris, France.
Similarly, the Union of International Cancer Control (UICC) has declared World Cancer Day to be a “global uniting initiative.”
This was to urge individuals all across the world to band together and battle the disease through detection, early identification, care and emotional support.
