KUCHING: A change in the school session has not gone down well with some quarters but the Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) wants parents in particular to give it a chance.
Saying while he understood the grievances raised by parents, STU president Adam Prakash Abdullah said children should be given the opportunity to attend classes as scheduled by the Ministry of Education (MoE).
“STU hopes they (parents) will give their full trust to the MoE in matters of national education,” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak on Saturday (Feb 5).
“The MoE has examined the school situation to ensure all students do not lose their instructional time, taking into account the time that has been disrupted due to Covid-19.”
He said following research, the latest academic schedule was published and that STU was confident the plan was the best for all educators and school children.
“STU hopes that the education environment in our country will be better in 2022 and God willing we can provide the best educational services to all.
“We also request that all parties give thoughtful opinions and suggestions to the MoE through the right platform.
“We do not want any parents to issue negative statements on social media,” he added.
Previously Senior Minister of Education, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said all students will remain in their respective classes in January and February 2022 before being allowed to advance to the next level in March.
He explained that the extension of the school session from 2021 to February 2022 was to enable teachers to assess the level of mastery of students, especially those who face difficulties in following the teaching and learning sessions at home (PdPR).
