Upward trend with 226 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 226 new positive COVID-19 cases on Thursday (Feb 10), marking another increasing trend for the third consecutive day.

The figure of 226 was an increase of 42 cases compared to 184 cases reported on Wednesday.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily COVID-19 statement said this brought the state’s case tally to 253,626.

“Of the 226 new cases, 118 are in Category 1 (no symptoms) and 104 are in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

“There is no case in Category 3 (lung infection), four cases in Category 4 (lung infection and requires oxygen), and no case in Category 5 (lung infection and requires ventilator),” SDMC said.

On the breakdown of new cases according to district, the committee said that Miri accounted for 75 cases, Kuching (72), Sibu (31), Lawas (9), Bintulu (9), Kapit (9), Limbang (6), Serian (5), Lundu (3) and Mukah (3).

“The districts of Samarahan, Sarikei, Meradong, Sri Aman and Simunjan each recorded one case,” it said.

SDMC said that no new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported on Thursday.

The committee said 18 new persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had been reported, bringing the total number of PUS undergoing quarantine at designated hotels to 264.
