KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KWKPK) and Elica Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) Kuching project.

KWKPK was represented by its permanent secretary, Datuk Rasidah Bolhassan, while Elica, by its managing director, Datuk Bobby Ting Sie Ching.

Present to witness the signing on Thursday (Feb 10) were minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah as well as assistant ministers Datuk Rosey Yunus and Mohamad Razi Sitam.

The CSSC Kuching will be set up in a four-unit three-storey shophouse located at Lot 288-291 on Section 49 Kuching Town Land District, Jalan Abell or previously known as Wisma Hoholim.

On top of the rental waiver amounting to RM1.2mil for a period of five years, Elica is also forking out RM2.4mil for building and renovation works.

The ground floor of the CSSC is set to have an amphitheater, flexible community spaces, friendly spaces to attract youths, food bank, soup kitchen and cafe.

Meanwhile, the first floor will be equipped with semi-private multifunctional area with spaces for private counselling session, discussion and consultation pods, meeting room, activity room, multi-functional gallery, and resources lounge.

The second floor is designated as a private transit shelter while the attic floor will have urban gardening facilities.

Among the services components that the CSSC will offer include showcase of assistance for social and welfare services provided by the government; one stop integrated social support and intervention referral services; transit point for family crisis victims and training centre for women affected by social issues.

Besides that, the CSSC has a soup kitchen to serve the homeless and those in need; a community food bank; youth and children activity corner; social enterprise space and provide community mental health services.

The completion of building and renovation works for the CSSC Kuching is expected to be between April and early May of this year.
