KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 201 new positive COVID-19 cases yesterday (Feb 13), bringing the state’s cumulative figure to 254, 227.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching has 72 new cases followed by Sibu (47); Miri (41); six each in Sarikei and Lawas; Serian (five); four each in Limbang, Kapit and Samarahan; Bintulu (three); two each in Tanjung Manis and Kanowit; and one each in Mukah, Betong, Meradong, Marudi and Subis.
The state also registered one new cluster — Jalan Kolej Cluster — involving trainees and their social contacts at a hostel of the educational institution located in jalan Kolej, Kuching.
This cluster was detected when four of the trainees who were having COVID-19 symptoms had their screening at a health facility on Feb 7.
“These index cases also have a history of returning to their respective states in Peninsular Malaysia for their break and returned to the institution here on Feb 5.
“The infection is believed to have originated from the close contacts of the positive cases and social interaction among the trainees and their close contacts,” SDMC said.
A total of 52 individuals in this cluster have been screened with 26 of them found to be positive including the index cases.
Meanwhile, there are thirty new persons under surveillance (PUI) cases with 205 PUI cases under quarantine and 166,209 discharged, added the committee.
