MIRI: Five men, believed to be ‘Ah Long’ (loan sharks), have been detained for threatening a man over an unpaid debt.

The incident allegedly occurred in the middle of last month.

The suspects, aged 19, 22, 24 and 37, were apprehended in various locations around the city on Sunday (Feb 13).

Miri deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol said the arrests were made after police received a report lodged by the 40-year-old complainant.

The complainant claimed that he received a threatening call from one of the suspects.

He also claimed that he had paid off his debt, amounting to RM10,200, to the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
