KUCHING: Sarawak will host the 25th Miss Tourism International World Finals Silver Jubilee on Nov 25.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah said the hosting of the event is indeed timely in the promote and boost the tourism industry in Sarawak and the rest of the country.
“I believe that Sarawak can be a great host to the delegates from 60 countries, and we will make sure that they bring back fond memories,” he said at the event’s launch today.
“We hope that the participants can also be the ambassadors for Sarawak’s tourist attractions in their respective countries.”
“As the tourism sector has been badly hit by the pandemic for the past two years, I believe we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
“With more borders reopening and stringent measures of health and safety, I am confident that 2022 will be a great year to open our doors again to welcome visitors to Sarawak.”
Abdul Karim said it was glad that the people have been adapting well with the present situation, including observing all the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) after the pandemic hit the state two years ago.
“As long as our people and tourists are fully vaccinated, they are perfectly okay. Besides, the Covid-19 brought-in-dead cases and Category 4 and 5 are showing a decrease, that should be okay to (allow tourism in Sarawak),” he said, adding that even those who had tested positive, “they are already okay.”
This year’s theme is “Bringing The World To Sarawak” and its main organiser is Esther Law of YAST Group, where participants would stay in Sarawak for 18 days.
