Bank urged to expand financial assistance to entrepreneurs

KUCHING: Agrobank has been told to further expand its access of financial assistance to entrepreneurs throughout Sarawak.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this was crucial in order to ensure smooth and effective implementation of initiatives provided by the Sarawak government to local entrepreneurs.

Awang Tengah told this to a delegation from Agrobank comprising its president and chief executive officer Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin and its senior officers who paid him a courtesy call at his office here on Wednesday.

The visitors also discussed on strengthening strategic cooperation between the bank and Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) on programmes for local entrepreneur especially in terms of financial assistance.

During the visit, they also discussed on the bank’s mobile unit as part of its initiatives to assist Sarawak’s rural communities.

The car banking services will enable people to withdraw money for their daily expenses, which in turn will contribute to economic growth in the rural areas.

Agrobank also offers financial products for several industries such as agriculture, retail banking financing, upstream activities such as supply of agricultural production inputs, downstream activities such as processing, marketing and sales of agricultural products, as well as financial assistance for boat upgrades for fisherman who want to venture into deep sea fishing activities.

Also present during the courtesy visit were Sarawak Entrepreneur Development advisor, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry’s acting permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Zaidi Mahdi, advisor on International Trade and Investment (MINTRED) Datuk Liaw Soon Eng, and head of Entrepreneur Development Division (MINTRED) Sarawak Sayed Ismail Datuk Seri Wan Hashim.
