KUCHING: The Sarawak government is committed to ensuring every household throughout the state, whether in urban or rural areas, will have full access to electricity.
Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi called on the people, especially in rural areas, to therefore remain patient as the government continues implementing projects under the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF).
To illustrate the government’s commitment he said 31 villages in the Pantai Damai constituency, for instance, will be getting round-the-clock electricity supply.
A total of 406 households already have access to the facility with the completion of ten of the 31 projects under the ALAF.
“This includes projects carried out in Kampung Sg. Berdaun, Kampung Sg. Batu, Kampung Sg. Lumut, Kampung Buntal, Kampung Telaga Air and Kampung Selang Laut.
“Besides that, the project at Kampung Temedak Melayu, Kampung Bintawa Tengah, Kampung Bintawa Hilir and Kampung Bintawa Ulu was also successfully completed,” he said.
He said this at a Rural Electricity Supply ALAF Scheme launching ceremony at the M&M Kopitiam Kampung Buntal on Thursday (March 3).
According to him projects at five villages involving 155 households were currently in the process of implementation, namely Kampung Pulo Hilir, Kampung Selang Ulu, Kampung Jaya Bakti, Kampung Bukit Nyabut Trombol and Kampung Temedak Melayu.
He pointed out that ten other villages comprising 122 households were currently under the survey and site design stage.
These villages are Kampung Teluk Simpor, Kampung Baru Off Jalan Pasir Pandak, Kampung Boyan Petrajaya, Kampung Rampangi Skim, Kampung Salak, Kampung Sg. Buah, Kampung Bukit Permata, Kampung Santunbong, Sg. Pangeran Jalaj Trombol and Kampung Sg. Agas Lama.
“The rest involving six villages with 86 households are in the planning stages for implementation.
“This includes Kampung Bukit Kudi; Kampung Pasir Pandak; Kampung Sungai Batu; Lot 10869 and 10870, Skim Rampangi, Jalan Lingkaran Samariang; new site of Sungai Batu Seri Bina and Kampung Sungai Agas Lama, Jalan Matang,” he added.
Also present at the ceremony were director of Electric Supply in the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Syed Mohd Fauzi Shahab, chief executive officer of SEB Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, senior management team from the ministry and Sarawak Energy.
