KUCHING: The Sarawak government will continue to safeguard fully protected areas in an effort to conserve the state’s wildlife.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that Sarawak said these include national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and natural reserves.
“It is through such efforts that we can find many wildlife such as Orang Utan, hornbills, clouded leopard as well as sea animals in Sarawak,” he said in a Facebook posting shared by Sarawak Forestry Corporation as a message in conjunction with World Wildlife Day which is observed on March 3 every year.
He said the Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary and Batang Ai National Park are among the areas that have been developed for Orang Utan conservation.
“Meanwhile, the Laconia Shoals National Park with an area of 1.2 million hectares has a variety of marine life such as whale, sharks and coral reefs,” he added.
Abang Johari said that conservation effort was one of the focuses for the Sarawak Economic Action Council (SEAC) besides the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.
“And of course, this initiative needs the cooperation and support of other parties, and I urge all to increase our efforts in wildlife conservation,” he stressed.
