GEDONG: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants youth in the state to stay strong in mind and body so that they contribute to achieving a developed state status by 2030.

He said this could be achieved by continuing to inculcate a healthy and active lifestyle among them.

“We want our people to be active and not passive so that whatever challenges there are in front of them, they will be able to face them with a good and focused mind.

“And that is why I want to congratulate the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development for carrying out various programmes to get the involvement of youth in sports or leisure activities,” he said when officiating at the launch of the Sarawak level X-Tive 2022 programme at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali here on Saturday (Mar 5).

He added that this would also help the state produce more youth who are active not only in sports but also in entrepreneurship and e-commerce in the digital economy.

Later when met by reporters after the function, Abang Johari said that the Sarawak X-Tive programme encouraged people to lead a healthy lifestyle as many were busy at work, to an extent that they forget their health.

“At the same time, our society must also look after their food intake to reduce the risk of being obese which is now the second-highest health problem in Malaysia after heart disease,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman stressed that it was important to adopt an active lifestyle.

“I am confident the state will have a bright future if its people continue to stay active.

“Let us always practice a healthy lifestyle in our daily life to achieve the target of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030,” he said.

Sarawak X-Tive, is an inaugural programme by the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development to cultivate sports for the well-being and unity of the people in the state.

The launching of programme was done simultaneously in all 12 divisions on Saturday.

Also present were Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and State Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also the Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development.
