SARIKEI: The holistic involvement of the public in sports can spur the socio-economic growth of the state.
“Therefore, the Sarawak X-Tive Programme needs to be implemented systematically every year,” said Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
He said this in his speech while officiating at the Sarawak X-Tive Programme Sarikei Division at Sarikei Sports Complex here yesterday.
The inaugural programme by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development was launched simultaneously in all 12 divisions of the state.
“The purpose of the programme is to encourage the participation of the community in a targeted manner by rebranding existing sports programmes.
He added the programme could help youth avoid negative social activities, provide employment opportunities in the local sports sector and help raise the prestige of Sarawak sports at the national and international levels.
“I hope more members of the public, especially youth, can participate in such programmes not only for their wellbeing but also for the state’s socio-economic progress in the future,” he said.
