KUCHING: The number of new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak dipped to 1,244 on Sunday (March 6) from the previous day’s 1,455, bringing the total number of cases to 267,655.
Of the total, 1,233 were in Categories 1 and 2 while 11 were in Categories 3, 4 and 5, according to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
In its daily update, it said Category 1 comprised 564 cases and in Category 2 there were 669. Category 3 had only three, while Categories 4 and 5 each had four cases.
“The breakdown of the cases saw Kuching with 446 followed by Miri with 235, 147 in Sibu, 78 in Samarahan, 58 in Bintulu and Serian recorded 56 cases.
“Sarikei had 37, Bau (33), Limbang (17), Mukah (16), Lawas (15), Kanowit (13), Belaga (12) and Saratok (10).
“Meanwhile, nine cases were recorded in Sri Aman, eight cases each in Meradong and Kapit, seven in Marudi, and Dalat recorded five cases,” said the committee.
There were four cases each in Asajaya and Beluru, and Betong, Simunjan and Matu each had three cases and there were two cases each in Lundu, Song, Daro, Lubok Antu, Selangau, Subis and Sebauh.
SDMC also said that three districts, namely, Pakan, Kabong and Tebedu recorded one case each.
Today also saw one fatality in Samarahan which occurred on March 4.
The victim was a 72-year-old man who had passed away in Simunjan Hospital and according to SDMC he had a background of high blood pressure and chronic obstructive lung disease.
“Nine compounds were issued in Kuching for failing to register in a premises using the MySejahtera application. This brings the total number of compounds to 13,517,” it said.
A total of 55 new persons under surveillance were recorded on Sunday and there were 217 still in quarantine.
The total number of persons under surveillance who had been discharged from quarantine, as of today, stood at 167,298.
