BINTULU: The proposed hydrogen plant to be built in Tanjung Kidurong next year will be the first in Malaysia, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said this would also see Sarawak taking the lead in the green economy in the Southeast Asia region.
“The investors involved in the project, Samsung from Korea and Sumitomo from Japan will buy back the hydrogen that is estimated to reach 100,000 tons,” he said.
He said this during the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) appreciation night at the World Restaurant last night (March 22).
“Sarawak is going for a green economy and we are one of the places in the world that is going to transform to a green economy.
“This is one of our efforts because today’s world is going towards a green economy as it is environmentally friendly,” he said.
The premier said all these plans including the state’s methanol plant project will be carried out until 2030 and will spur the overall development in Tanjung Kidurong.
“One of the reasons investors go for Sarawak is because of their confidence in the economic policies of the GPS government.
“And God willing, these policies will be the catalyst for the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” he said.
He added that investors also choose to invest in Sarawak because of its political stability.
“This is the direction of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that is not only to develop Bintulu but the entire Sarawak,” he said.
Abang Johari then thanked the people of Bintulu, BDA, the state’s stakeholders for contributing ideas and providing cooperation in the development of Bintulu.
“With that, I hope Bintulu will be a sustainable, safe, comfortable city for its local people and visitors,” he said.
