SIBU: A 33-year-old man from Julau will have to spend three months in jail as he could not pay RM1,800 fine imposed by a Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Mar 24) for criminal trespass.

Magistrate Punitha Sivaraji fined Jerry Giau RM1,800, in default three months’ jail after the accused pleaded guilty to committing criminal trespass by entering into the compound of a workshop in Jalan Sg Bidut with the intention to commit theft at about 2.30pm on Mar 19.

The offence under Section 447 of the Penal Code provides for an imprisonment term which may extend to six months or RM3,000 or both upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Badrul Iskandar Selamat told the court that on Mar 19 at about 2.30pm, a workshop owner and his friend apprehended a man who had trespassed into the workshop.

Police investigation revealed that the accused had gone into the workshop via a hole in the fence.
