KUCHING: A 10 cubic metre (cbm) RoRo container from Trienekens was filled to the brim with trash following a beach clean-up on Sunday.
Reuse or Refuse Borneo (ROR Borneo) co-founder Kelly Hiu Jing Wen said the event took place at Pasir Pandak Beach from 9am to 12pm, with about 40 persons involved.
The beach clean-up, organised by her team, was held in collaboration with Sarawak Beach Cleanup Party, Lions Club of Kuching Elite and SOL Digital with the bin contributed by Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
“Majority of the trash were plastic bottles. But in half a day’s work, we managed to reach our goal and fill the bin to its maximum capacity.
“The sight of the beach before the clean-up was very upsetting as there were piles of trash in all corners of the beach, some were even hidden behind a few nooks and crannies in the jungle.
“Even though the beach is clean now, it will still be filled with trash again within the next week when the tide washes up the trash,” she said, adding that it was great to have cooperative and hardworking participants who gave their all for this event.
She pointed out that there was no timeline set for the next clean-up, however, it would be planned in the future.
