KUCHING: Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah says that Malaysians have no problem crossing into Brunei and vice versa as the temporary restriction is for Indonesians only.
He was commenting on Brunei’s temporary suspension of cross border activities via land and sea that had been extended from April 1 to 15.
“I understand that the situation is such so that they can finalise the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and I believe that after 15 days, all will be back to normal.
“On Sarawak’s side, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), including immigration, are currently finalising the SOPs and I don’t know what is being discussed on the cross border between Indonesia and Malaysia.
But, there is no problem in cross border crossing in Malaysia.”
On the 15th General Election, he told the media after officiating at the MoU signing between English news portal DayakDaily and Friends of Sarawak Museum (FOSM) here yesterday that GE15 depended on the federal government and the Prime Minister.
“As for Barisan Nasional (BN) making a clean sweep in GE15, we cannot take their victories in Malacca and Johor as a yardstick as every state has a different scenario, for example states like Kelantan, Penang, Selangor might be different.
“As for GPS, we can tell by our victory in the state election three months ago and I believe that GPS will win in Sarawak.
Our area of concern is Sarawak and we are not looking at other states.
I believe that we can win the way we won the last state election.
“During the last general election, there were 31 seats in Sarawak and we won only 19.
But I strongly believe that we can win more than 19 in GE15.”
Abdul Karim also urged party leaders to just resign and not look for another place to survive by jumping from one party to another.
He was referring to the current situation in PSB and added that GPS had ample candidates and would not be looking for more.
