KUCHING: Finally, we no longer need to rely on anyone travelling to Malaya to “tapau” (takeaway) the Rotiboy buns for us, as the first outlet opened its doors here today.
The bakery’s soft launch began at 10am on the lower ground floor of the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre, with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the store.
The Original Rotiboy, Buttermilkboy, Mochaboy as well as Cheeseboy are among the flavours available at the moment.
Plaza Merdeka Group Marketing Communications manager Leovell Sam said the mall has been actively marketing the Rotiboy outlet’s opening.
“The response to the Facebook announcement was really positive, with numerous engagements.
“We also invited several well-known people, influencers as well as the media to help us spread the word that Rotiboy is finally coming to Kuching.
“In terms of response, I believe we’ll have to wait a few days to see.
“I honestly did not expect such a big line, given that it is fasting month,” he explained.
Leovell also stated that they expect the shop to succeed in the same way that it did in Kuala Lumpur, and that they hope it would attract residents from the surrounding area to the mall.
Plaza Merdeka is open daily from 10am to 10pm for members of the public interested in purchasing the scrumptious Rotiboy buns.
Also present were Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre managing director Datuk Steve Ng, Plaza Merdeka Management Sdn Bhd general manager and director Datin Anriza Wong Cordero, Rotiboy Malaysia project manager Emyrul Yusof, Rotiboy Malaysia assistant manager Firdaus Rosni as well as KPI Holding Sdn Bhd representatives Raymond Kwang and Emily Wong.
