MIRI: The Northern Sarawak Journalist Association will participate in the GoBald 2022 event as a sign of support and assistance in fundraising for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report, NSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon said he would represent NSJA in the GoBald 2022 event to support former NSJA president and Sin Chew Daily journalist Thng Joo Hua who is fighting cancer to raise a target fund of RM100,000 for SCCS.
In this regard, he also called on the public to also give their full support in achieving the target.
“To give my full support to Thng, I decided to participate in the GoBald 2022 event to support fundraising for children with cancer.
“Everyone is welcome to give their support to Thng Joo Hua so that SCCS can achieve its fundraising goals,” he said.
Andy Jong said Thng Joo was diagnosed with stage four nasopharyngeal cancer last January and had to receive chemotherapy treatment four times before receiving radiotherapy treatment in Kuching.
“So far, Thng has completed three chemotherapy treatments at Miri Hospital and he will go to Kuching on April 18, 2022 for the fourth chemotherapy treatment and then start radiotherapy treatment,” he said.
Jong, who is also the President of the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA), said that Thng had been an SCCS volunteer for more than 10 years and this year participated in the ‘Go Bald’ campaign.
“This annual campaign is held to increase the SCCS fund and raise public awareness on the dangers of cancer at a young age.
“Thng wants to set himself an example and give encouragement and mental strength to childhood cancer patients that they can fight the disease with courage,” he added.
Jong said SCCS needs continued support from the community, corporate bodies and the government as the organisation helped families cover the cost of medical, transportation, accommodation as well as moral support.
