KUCHING: The state government is planning to expand the Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1 Malaysia (RMR1M) project in Sungai Midin to cater for about 67,000 applicants throughout the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said the government has developed the RMR1M in Kampung Baru in Sibu, and now in the process to build the same in Kampung Kemunyang, Sibu.
“This is the policy of the government to help the people to own their own homes. This project here is the proof.
“We plan to add more houses from Sungai Midin up to Samariang. Of course, this will cost money, but hopefully our oil money will come back to the State, and using that to develop the state, especially in rural areas,” said Abang Johari in his speech after the walkabout at the Sungai Midin RMR1M in Matang here yesterday.
He also proposed to rename Sungai Midin to Taman Midin to better reflect the project that has modernised the area with its 52 units of RMR1M homes.
“For this area, it will be called Taman Midin while for the Sungai Bedaun area, it will be named Taman Bedaun,” he said.
He added that the state government is also aiming to beef up its revenue to further improve infrastructure such as drains and roads in areas prior to building more affordable homes.
“As the Chief Minister, I want to improve the livelihood of the people by channeling the state funds to the development of the rural and sub-urban areas of the state,” he stressed.
At the same time, Abang Johari urged the Petra Jaya residents to give full support to the Petra Jaya Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“In the 13th General Election, Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency has recorded 20,000-vote majority. This time, we target to have more than 21,000-vote majority.
“If we can give more majorities, it is easier for us to negotiate for Petra Jaya development,” he said.
Also present were Works Minister who is also BN candidate and incumbent for Petra Jaya Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
