SRI AMAN: Councilor Andar Suntai was appointed as chief for the Sengat Atas jurisdiction, and a thanksgiving ceremony was held at his longhouse at Rumah Empol, Tenggak River here.
Present during the ceremony was Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, as a mark of recognition and support for the appointment.
The Simanggang assemblyman expressed his gratitude to the state government and the Sri Aman Resident Office for agreeing to acknowledge Simanggang as a new jurisdiction.
“There are four Iban chief’s jurisdictions that fall under the constituency, namely Bandar Simanggang, Undop Tengah, Sengat Baruh, and Sengat Atas.
“The chief for Malay and Chinese jurisdiction is still being discussed for approval,” Francis said.
According to the statement, each Tuai Rumah is reminded to be aware of the development projects being carried out in their respective areas that are funded by the government through the Sarawak Parties Alliances’ elected representatives.
“Tuai Rumah and Penghulu in their respective areas must work together to assist me, as the people’s representative in Simanggang, in implementing physical and mental development.
“Cooperation is critical as a pillar in navigating demand-driven development.” Francis pointed out.
At the ceremony, Francis also handed over a Minor Rural Project cheque worth RM11,000 to the chairman of the village development and security committee Empol’s Tuai Rumah to cover the cost of drainage that is currently being built.
