MIRI: Two brothers were detained by the police this morning for stealing a cash register machine containing RM350 from an eatery at Jalan Riam here.

The incident, which happened on April 14, was reported by the shop’s owner.

The duo, aged 45 and 50 years old, were detained by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation (CID) personnel at an orchard near Jalan Futee here at around 11 am.

Police also seized several housebreaking gadgets from the duo.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the duo attempted to escape upon noticing the presence of CID personnel in the area.

Fortunately, the CID personnel’s swift action managed to foil the suspects’ attempt. Both were detained and brought to the Miri Central police station’s lockup.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 35 (g) of the Minor Offences Act 1957.
