The ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali.

Azman replaces Datuk Aidi Ismail, who was transferred to Bukit Aman police headquarters on Feb 21 as the new director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.

Hazani congratulated Azman on his new position as the Sarawak CP.

“Azman is a highly capable officer who will be able to perform the responsibilities and trusts given to him as the new Sarawak Police Commissioner.

He took the opportunity to thank Datuk Mancha for carrying out the duties as the acting CP for two months and seven days.

Azman, who has been in the police force for 36 years, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the IGP on his new appointment, pledging to perform his duties as well as possible.

“I hope to cooperate with all the department chiefs, police chiefs and staff members to continue providing the best policing service to the community.

“The public order and harmony in Sarawak must continue to be maintained and the fortifications of national security must be strengthened.

“That being said, I hope that the Sarawak IPK will work together in realising the three main focuses of our IGP – to strengthen integrity, improve service delivery and uphold government policies and efforts in maintaining the well-being of society,” he said.

Azman added that the back-to-basics concept was crucial as it touched on basic policing fundamentals such as compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), provisions of the law and instructions from the administration to ensure all personnel were on the right path.
