KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Borneo Creative Content Incubator Centre (BCCIC) is in the process of setting up a multipurpose space at Uni-Central here to encourage creative content training programmes.

BCCIC programme director Ts Azharul Azmir Kamarulzaman stated that this is part of their commitment for Sarawak.

He hoped the collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) will lead to programmes to be planned and implemented in the future.

“BCCI is an independent organisation that focuses on human capital development efforts in the creative industry in Borneo. This is done through programmes in the form of short-term training, incubator programmes, and a series of partnerships from experts among others.

“One of our goals is to encourage collaboration between local talents in Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Kalimantan as Borneo itself is a vast market that can be explored.

“For instance, in the context of Sarawak we can see the potentials to collaborate with creative content creators from Kalimantan. This could be a gateway for Sarawakian talents to enter the Indonesian market,” he said.

He said this during the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between UNIMAS and BCCI on Tuesday (April 19).

His speech was read out by BCCI programme coordinator Azmira Azna Kamarulzaman.

Based on BCCIC’s participation in various events around the world, he disclosed that Borneo-theme brands or content especially documentary programmes and factual content have strong demand and presence.

In disclosing this, he pointed out that the uniqueness of the culture and natural beauty of Borneo has its own fans and audience from all over the world with good demand in the market.

“However, most of the contents were produced by foreign productions which can be seen as a loss. At the same time, it can be seen as a potential for local talents to take advantage of,” he said.

He shared that BCCIC has implemented various programmes in collaboration with Borneo Producers Exchange, Sarawak Media Group as well as Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCENIC).
