KUCHING: The Marudi Junction – Bunut 275kV Transmission Line Project, which is part of the Northern Grid Extension power infrastructure project to connect Limbang and Lawas region to the main power grid, is progressing steadily with transmission line stringing works to connect towers starting this week.
According to Sesco’s media communication officer in a press release here today, the stringing works for the Marudi Junction 275KV – Bunut 275KV Transmission Line Project will begin on Wednesday.
The works are expected to be completed by the third week of May 2022, she added.
She also disclosed that the transmission line will also serve as a source of supply for Bunut, Ulu Baram, Bario, Bakelalan, Long Lama, Mulu and Tinjar.
This project is part of Sarawak Energy’s ongoing efforts to modernise Sarawak’s power system and provide affordable, reliable electricity supply for the people, she said.
Prior to the stringing works, the project team will install insulated netting crossing above the Marudi 33kV distribution line as a safety measure on Tuesday.
Sesco’s electricity supply to Marudi town is expected to be unaffected over the duration of the insulated netting installation works.
Nevertheless, preparations are being done to ensure safe completion of works in the shortest time possible.
She said the team has also adopted precautionary measures including deploying three portable generator sets to Marudi town as a standby for supplying critical services if required.
In the event of bad weather, works may be postponed for safety reasons, she said.
The public can contact Sarawak Energy Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111, or utilise Sarawak Energy mobile app SEBcares to obtain the latest updates of the connection works and to report outages to assist in speedy restoration of electricity supply.
