KUCHING: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate for the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency, Datuk Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor, is determined to help improve the basic infrastructures in the area if he wins the seat.
According to him, his main priority is to overcome traffic congestion on Matang road. He said there are still many areas in Petra Jaya which still do not have adequate clean water and electricity supply, as well as unpaved roads. “For example, the Matang main road should have four lanes instead of the current two lanes. “There are many complaints from road users over the years because of the congestion which indirectly reduces productivity. “In addition, there are no motorcycles lanes or emergency routes along the road.
“This is very dangerous for motocyclists and cylists as they are vulnerable to high risks of accidents,” he said in a press statement. Meanwhile, P194 Petra Jaya which has a total of 58,009 registered voters will witness a three-corner fight between the incumbent, Dato Seri Fadillah Yusuf of the Barisan Nasional, Dr Nor Irwan of PKR and Hamdan Sani (PAS). It comprises the state seats of Satok, Samariang and Tupong. Nor Irwan said he had been on the ground for over a year to hear the problems of the people and regrets that there is no master plan for development in Petra Jaya.
“As such, development cannot be done in a structured manner and this will definitely contribute to socio-economic problems in this constituency,” he said. He said the government should be more concerned with the problems of the people in terms of basic infrastructure needs such as roads, electricity and clean water supply. “We have been independent for over 50 years already. Urgent action must be taken to overcome the people’s problems.
“This should not have happened in the Petra Jaya area which is located in Kuching City North,” he said, adding he will continue to be on the ground to hear the people’s problems. “Just by going to the ground we can listen to the hearts of the people and the problems they face,” said Nor Irwan, a former lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussien Onn.
