MIRI: A drill to test Miri Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward’s response to a mock fire was held yesterday morning, from 8.30am to 11am.

Firemen from Lopeng and Miri stations immediately responded after being alerted about huge smoke coming from the ICU ward.

Nine victims – one child eight adults – were immediately evacuated from the area as the fire swiftly spread to a nearby storeroom.

In a media statement released after the drill, Miri Hospital Director Jack Wong said the main purpose of the drill was to expose to the hospital staffs the importance of evacuating from the area during fire.

Amongst the agencies involved during the drill were Miri Fire station, the police and the Miri Hospital Concession Company.
