GEDONG: Villages here have the potential to be developed as modern agriculture areas using the latest farming technology, once the basic infrastructures in Gedong have been completed.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this at the closing ceremony of ‘Jelajah Ramadan RTM Kuching’ at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali here yesterday.

“We already have a master plan to develop Gedong as promised when we won in the state election.

“Also, we have already met with the community leaders in the area in a workshop to discuss what more needed to be done to develop the district, such as irrigation and sewage projects,” said Abang Johari.

He also said that village areas could be developed as potential modern agriculture areas, transitioning from traditional farming method to modern farming method.

“We want to develop the areas, therefore, I have ordered Swinburne University to set up a laboratory in the district.

“By setting up the laboratory, we can then slowly introduce the use of the latest technology in farming to the farmers here,” added the Premier.

Abang Johari expressed his thanks to Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) for organising the Ramadan tour programme across the state.

“Of course, with the cooperation from the broadcast department as well as other government agencies, we will work out on developing the rural areas in Sarawak.

“Thank you to all of those involved in our planning to develop Gedong. With continuous dialogues and discussions with the communities here, we will have a plan on how to allocate the funds to develop Gedong as promised during the election,” he said.
