KUCHING: Kuching BN-SUPP candidate, Kho Teck Wan reveals what she will do on her first 100 days if the voters in Bandar Kuching vote her in.

“Sarawak and Sabah which formed Malaysia in 1963 were given safeguards for additional degree of autonomy, special privileges and additional sources of revenue where other states in Malaya do not have,” said Kho in a media statement yesterday.

“The safeguards were enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report and inserted into the Malaysia Constitution which is the supreme law of the Federation.

“We must safeguard the Malaysia Constitution as it would be redundant and irrelevant if they are easily amended by the Malayan States at will.

“Therefore, it was agreed in the MA63 that Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore controlled more than 33 pct of the total parliamentary seats as a protection to prevent the Malayan States the two-thirds majority required to amend the Malaysia Constitution or remove our safeguards at will,” she explained.

Pointing out that Sarawak and Sabah only accounted for 25 pct of the total parliamentary seats which is not enough to protect our constitutional safeguards in the Malaysia Constitution from being overridden by Malayan two-thirds majority she said it is of most importance that Parliamentary Election (PRU14) is the only chance for us to build a stronger Sarawak.

“This is made possible only if we have your votes,” said Kho. “We must have our own Sarawak based Parties representing Sarawak in parliament, defending our Sarawak’s interests which means all 31 seats in Sarawak must be won by the Barisan Nasional for them to have a loud voice in Parliment.

She added that no candidates from Malayan Parties can stand up loyally and truthfully in defending our interests as they are all answerable to their own Party’s political masters in Malaya.

“The late chief minister, Pehin Sri Adenan Satem had said, ‘Who understand Sarawak matters better than Sarawakians themselves? As long as you receive orders from Kuala Lumpur, you are not welcome,” she said.

Don’t listen to all these Peninsular Malaysia politicking. That is why I don’t want Umno to come over to Sarawak or for that matter, other political parties that originate from outside Sarawak. No Umno, DAP, PKR and PAS,” she said.

Saying that the present personalities of opposition in Sarawak will be equally constrained as the State Government was in the ‘80s and 90’s with the reinstatement of Tun Dr. Mahathir, Kho explained that the expected eventual senility of the aged politician will give rise to instability and infighting among that group of egoistical characters.

“The rights will be compromised by this situation,” she warned.

Sarawak, she added, is the only State with a majority Christian population and we are moving with declared commitment toward Religious Freedom because our Constitution confirms this.

“This is an example of our set of Priorities our State Government will project with whatever Government in Putrajaya. This is part of our Autonomy Movement started with the late Pehin Sri Adenan, and we are not going to stop. But we need your participation to see it through.
