BINTANGOR: The tradition of festive open house needs to be nurtured from a young age.

In saying this, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing stressed that doing so would preserve the tradition.

“Apart from that, this is also important to further strengthen racial harmony in the state,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report.

Ding was interviewed after visiting several villages in Bintangor in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Thursday.

With the relaxation of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, the people could visit one other but must comply with the SOPs.

Earlier, Ding paid a Hari Raya visit to the residents of Kampung Selemas, Kampung Gemuan and Kampung Skim B.

He also visited the house of Sarikei Deputy Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman and the house of Meradong District Officer Badjuri Bidin.
